Kriti Sanon, and Pankaj Tripathi gave one of the best performances of their career in Laxman Utekar’s Mimi. 

Mimi is a skillful adaptation of a critically acclaimed Marathi film ‘Mala Aai Vhhaychy!’ by Laxman Utekar. It is a light-hearted movie that approaches the weighty issue of surrogacy and its menace. It’s a movie that will make you laugh and cry with tears of happiness and sadness during its different beats.

Mimi opened various doors for Kriti Sanon, who is seen frequently in movies like Shehzada, Bhediya, and Dilwale) as she proved herself as a solid actor with this one! Needless to say, Pankaj Tripathi shone in his role of Bhanu Pratap Pandey, and the entire cast did a fab job. 

The Storyline of The Movie ‘Mimi’

Mimi is a happy-go-lucky girl who is a Bollywood fanatic and a Ranveer Singh fan from Rajasthan. In her aspiration to enter the film industry, she wants to get her portfolio done, which will cost her ₹20 Lakhs. 

Mimi has never seen that amount of money in her life and can’t ask for it from her family as well. In her desperation to collect the money as soon as possible, she accepts the offer to become a surrogate for an American couple, John and Summer. They proceed further with IVF, and Mimi becomes pregnant. 

The movie touches on a lighter note when Mimi thinks that she will have to have sex with John during the process. To keep it a secret from her family, Mimi lies to them that she is going to Mumbai for a nine-month-long shoot and lives at her friend’s place. 

Fast forward to seven months, during a routine checkup, it was revealed that the child that Mimi is carrying has down syndrome. Heartbroken, John, and Summer leave for the USA and leave Mimi behind with the baby. 

Exasperated, Mimi has no idea what to do as she has a fairly visible belly. Having no other option, Mimi returns home and lies to her parents that the child belongs to Bhanu. This gives birth to some new problems as Bhanu’s wife starts doubting him. 

The Mimi movie again fast forwards to four years, and the baby grows up to be a beautiful boy, Raj, named by Mimi. He is the apple of everyone’s eye and is deeply loved by Mimi. She even gives up her Bollywood aspirations for Raj and leads a happy life with him.

However, John and Summer return back to Mimi’s life with the shock of her life. When they see a viral video of Raj, their parental love brings them to India to get their son. This sudden arrival of Raj’s parents leaves Mimi, her family, and Bhanu utterly shocked and heartbroken. 

However, Mimi decides to fight back and not give in to their threats of legal action. But she changes her mind when she thinks of Raj’s better future in America and to save Raj from going through the entire legal process.
