The web series ‘Dahaad’ is inspired by a real incident in Karnataka in which a serial killer named Mohan used to target poor unmarried women. He made them fall in love with him and later killed them brutally. The plot of this series is quite similar to it. 

This series is directed and written by Reema Kagti who contributed to popular movies like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Talaash, Gold, and many more. The Bollywood stars Sonakshi Sinha and Hate Story famed Gulshan Devaiah played the main roles of the police officers in this movie who are puzzled over the increasing number of missing women.

The Storyline of the Web Series Dahaad

Thakur is a well-known personality in the small village of Mandawa in Rajasthan. He files a case claiming that his daughter named Rajni has been kidnapped by a Muslim boy. This case is handed over to SI Anjali Bhaati and Inspector Devi Lal Singh who find out that the Muslim boy’s name is Altaaf. They arrest his family and ask them about him. They reveal that Rajni and Altaaf are in love with each other and will marry in the register office. 

The scene shifts to the college where a Hindi professor named Anand is teaching in his class and Surekha, his student constantly staring at him. On his way home, he says to a woman standing at a bus stop that he might know her. The woman ignores him and leaves. He reaches home where he lives with his wife Vandana and his son Kapish. His wife works in a hotel and tells him that she needs to work an extra shift today. 

In actual practice, Anjali reaches the register office and inquires about Rajni and Altaaf. She shows pictures of them to the worker and asks if they came for marriage or not, to which he shows their marriage form. In the next scene at the police station, a lower caste man named Murli arrives and complains that his sister Krishna has been missing for two months but no one agrees to file his complaint. 

In order to grab the eyeballs, he lies and says that his sister has run away with a Muslim boy. Thakur takes advantage of it and asks officers to file his complaint and search Krishna as well. While looking for Krishna, they learn about many other women who are missing for similar reasons; having fled with their lovers. 

Anjali and Dev discover connectivity between these cases and suspect that there is one culprit behind them. Who is that culprit and what’s his motive behind kidnapping women?
